ONLY drama I’ve rewatched more than once, in fact, I think 5 times at least. Ever since it’s release, it has been my most favorite drama. A must-watch.

However, guys might find it uncomfortable though…so beware.

Coffee Prince is a drama I would consider new, fresh, something slightly different than the typical Korean dramas that are constantly swooned over.

The plot begins as expected, the plain Jane meeting the gorgeous male lead, falling in love with his friend and thus introducing the difficult road to the relationship between the plain Jane and gorgeous male. What I find different and most captivating about this drama is any conflict between the two leads is mainly the two of them. They don’t bring in a 3rd party female or male to consistently try to come between the two main characters like is seen in so many other dramas. They realize rather quickly how much they like each other, but there are other reasons than another female/male ruining their chances. The plot development is smooth, well paced, and always interesting.

The characters are completely addicting. You have your fair share of snark, antagonist, and utter stupidity that will have you continually giggling or laughing in even the most serious of moments. The way they continue to develop characters and branch them off into their side stories in no way takes away from the drama, like some side stories tend to do.

The ending, I personally wish would’ve had a bit more “oomph”. It happened way too fast and seems like it just cut off. I have to say I was a bit disappointing, the whole drama had me wanting more, continually forcing myself to stay up to get through the next episode, and when it finally came to an end I just kind of stared and thought to myself “that’s it”? But when sitting back and watching it a second time, I realized, is there a better way to end it?

Overall, the drama is addicting, comical and carries quite the message about personal images and sexual orientation. I would recommend this drama time and time again.

I seldom write reviews cause I always believe that interests are varied and what you like I may not like and it is highly likely I may be misguided by your written review which I would absolutely hate! haha so yeah instead of saying a review I would say that this is my opinion of the drama and up to you to decide whether the elements I like you like too or not! :)

Coffee Prince happened to be my first k drama and I was skeptical about it. It was just the first scene of the main character (Choi Han Kyul) flirting with his grandmother that got me on! what started as liking the actors ended up more than that and watching it again made me appreciate the real depth and detail the directors and writers had worked to make it what it is now to us! Girl poses as a guy, girl falls for the guy while disguised as guy and story continues.. sounds similar to so many mangas and manhwas what difference can you expect? The drama saw relationships from a different perspective, what a girl feels during a break up or heartbreak probably everyone knows (ok shouldn’t say everyone knows and it is indeed a difficult time – after all I am a girl too) but how many dramas would go on to show what the guy feels during this time? What confusion the guy went through and how difficult it was for him to reach a conclusion when he thought he was having feelings for the guy was in fact shown with as much sincerity as possible and I would say the actors put in all they could to portray the characters as close to reality as possible.

The emotions were just right and weren’t over exaggerated. The age difference, the maturity of the relationship and even the relationship of the guy with his father and his family were well handled. Not knowing the facts can hinder relationships and it did for a long time for the father and the son and how renewing it again takes time was well depicted. But at the same time, the story never drifted away from its main storyline and side stories were indeed side stories and just provided the correct bond for the story.
The girl admiration of the good guy in the drama who also turns out to be the Choi Han Kyul’s cousin and also the lover of the Choi Han Kyul’s first love (wah man that’s confusing!) is well potrayed and reaches its conclusion when needed.

The spendthrift mother, the irritating but cute sister, the mother’s lover, the coffee shop manager and three princes – it would have been incomplete without them.

And one last thing about it? The guy is perfect boyfriend! Can cook, can sing, is rich and handsome and is smart do you need anything else in him? haha ok that’s a bit ridiculous for review but watch it if that’s what you are looking for ..

every drama has its flaws and it has its own too.. The ending for some people is a bit rushed? a bit extended? For me it lacked a certain spark? If I have to say that .. you might feel something lacking from all the hype of 16 episodes but if I come to critically look at it .. this is the best way they could have brought it to an end.

On the whole, with a nice music and lovely actors this is a trendy drama with probably everything you would look for if you are looking for a mature love story with twists and turns and guys! it gives you quite a number of ideas on how to treat your girlfriend!! =D

Quite possibly the most entertaining plot bunny in the world of Asian drama is the girl-pretending-to-be-a-man. It heightens the laughter, adds to the angst, and even dips into questioning one’s sexuality, serious or not. The Japanese story Hana Kimi seemed to make it famous (with its Japanese and Taiwanese drama incarnations)–but Coffee Prince made it good.

Yoon Eun Hye plays Go Eun Chan, the eldest daughter in her somewhat costly family–her mother is always buying new things and her younger sister has dreams of being a star. To make ends meet, she takes on a number of odd jobs–including martial arts instructor and sewing eyes onto Sgt. Frog plushies. She’s got ridiculous amounts of spunk but no femininity.

Through a rather ridiculous robbery-gone-wrong by someone she knew, Eun Chan meets the confident, handsome and lazy Choi Han Kyul (played by Gong Yoo), heir to a company run by his grandmother. He mistakes her for a boy and enlists her to pretend to be his lover on a number of marriage dates his grandmother has set up for him.

This, funny enough, is all in the first episode. I have to admit, that first look into the world of Coffee Prince was not a particularly good indication of what the drama itself would be like. For example, Eun Chan is challenged to eat a bunch of bowls of black bean noodles by a man in love with her sister, and the whole scene is fairly disgusting. What’s more Han Kyul appears to be a womanizer through the entire first episode, but that characteristic isn’t really followed up on in the later episodes. Instead, he is seen as being totally head over heels for a woman named Yoo Joo, who happens to be the on-and-off again girlfriend of his cousin, Han Seong.

Despite all these entangled webs, though, this drama is really about coffee-specifically a cafe Han Kyul is forced to run and Eun Chan weasels her way into pretending to be male. Gong Yoo and Yoon Eun Hye’s chemistry is undeniable–the two have no personal space between them right from the start, and it only grows as the drama continues.

Unlike most drama I’ve seen where the side characters are about as exciting as watching grass grow, the cast of Coffee Prince are nothing short of amazing, at least as the young people go. Eun Chan’s sister is witty and bitchy, but really just trying to achieve her dreams. The man who falls for her, Min Yeop, is innocent to the point of stupidity, but his big heart is definitely proportionate to his large stature. The Korean/Japanese/What-In-The-World waffle maker No Sun Ki is the cool and composed one in all this madness. Top it off with Han Kyul’s friend Jin Ha Rim who regularly has no idea what’s going on, and Coffee Prince is the only place I’d want to hang out in the afternoon.

The music continues to get stuck in my head even more than three years later–and whenever I hear it, I know for certain that it’s from Coffee Prince. There’s no other soundtrack like it. If you listen to no other song from this amazing piece, check out “Across the Ocean” by Azure Ray, sure to calm you down and maybe even serenade you into a deep, restful sleep.

Kudos also to Lee Sun Gyun, who plays Han Seong–he breaks the second male lead nightmare of being nuts or frustrating, and instead proves to be both a good friend and a sexy singer, to boot!

Coffee Prince is quirky, sexy and funny. All things dramatic (except for the revelation of Eun Chan’s gender for each of the characters) are less-than-believable, but that’s what makes this drama so much fun.

Coffee Prince was one of the best drama’s I have ever seen. It is a semi-comic love story with a twist. This drama will make you laugh, smile and ponder when the next episode is going to come out! Each character has their own unique story, which was portrayed beautifully by each actor. I dont think there would be another cast better than this one for this drama. For people who like love stories, definitely watch this. For people who like comedy, watch this. For people who like a bit of love action, watch this. For people who like stunt action-action drama, definitely not for you. For people who like sad stories, not for you either. Overall, you get my point! =]
