조쉬모 here again. Ok – my worst fear came true. this drama dragged. And dragged. And dragged. The highlights were certainly in the early episodes. The later half was the same plot played over & over again. Over-dramatized, predictable, never feared for the hero or heroeins ’cause you KNEW they would be rescued at the last possible moment…arrrghh! And Jo Pilyon’s sinister laughter after nearly every cut…. come on!!

This would have been a memorable drama if they had kept it to a reasonable 24 or even 32 episodes. As is, a valiant but failed attempt at being a great drama. Merely good.

    7/10

Last 20 or so episodes can be watched skipping every other one (or two!) without missing much. But I really enjoyed the early episodes and will watch those again at some point.

How to decribe Giant. For me its like what East of Eden could have been or the same genre with all the fat cut off. The first few episodes are painful to watch even for a drama. The drama is brought down to the point that you may not even cry and just take it surreal. The story pacing comes into its own in the mid teens and manages to keep you interested while not making you feel like your waiting for developments to be exposed. Like the previous reviewer said its a push how interconnected thing are but its a K-drama its never not a push. Either way its great drama that relies less on action and more on plot and character developement to get you through episodes. Its at times lean to the point that it feels like there are no wasted converstations or scenes.

9.8/10 ( would give it a 10 for 10 but ill have to wait for the ending)

hmmm… first to review. i’m on epsidoe 30. this is a top-notch drama. good story, great characters, not overly melodramatic or sentimental. no teenage drama queens here. the struggles are real, i think even has historical significance with the spectacular growth of S. Korea in the 80s. first few episodes moved along sprightly…not a moment of it spent in vein. it got a little slow at times, making me wonder if they were trying to meet their quota of 50 eps. i’m hopeful that won’t be the case going forward.

only gripe i have is how EVERYTHING/ONE is tied together…. three siblings who lost each other at a young age [spoiler alert!!!] find each other as the main characters in a elaborate politico-economic scheme later in life…. little hard to swallow, but that’s the crux of the story, so we’ll live with it.

great drama that shows how much kdramas have matured in both style and delivery.
