Very entertaining. Can’t help but fall in love with the characters especially the princess, Shin Chae Kyung and the greqt Queen mother.

I’ve just finished watching this drama for the second time. It left an impression on me the first time, so this was definitely a drama to watch again.

The thing I love the most about this drama is the chemistry between the main characters Shin Chae Kyung and Lee Shin. They are the perfect match and the funny thing is, is that you notice that right away.

The cast is also a thing to love. Everyone had the role that suited them the most, and the acting was overall very good. I really liked Chae Kyung’s friends and the grandma-queen. They were funny, nice and lovable.

The storyline was well written. There was a lot of humor, drama and romance and the story was not so hard to understand. Though there was one thing that bothered me and that is the long and sometimes boring monologues between the elder. The story was just too much. There was too much going on between all the different characters, that the main focus – Shin Chae Kyung and Lee Shin – was a bit lost at times. At times I just skipped those scenes.

Overall, this is a very good drama. I give this drama a 8/10 because of the great acting and chemistry between the two main characters. The set was beautiful, the costumes were beautiful and the actors were beautiful ;) . The plot was a bit dreary but still good enough to get through and to want to finish the drama ánd to watch it again!

Personally, I liked this drama. The story-line is kind of far-fetched with the Korean dynastic rule still intact but the chemistry between the major roles was definitely there. It was confusing at times because I asked myself many times, “wait, so what does the king even do?”. The cast was really really good! I loved the acting in both Chae-Kyung’s and Shin’s families. Yoon Eun-Hye, playing Shin Chae-Kyung, was amazing as she developed her character in a realistic way. I never really liked the amount of crying she did in the drama though; she cried in so many scenes! Joo Ji-Hoon did well with his role as Lee Shin also. He’s such a cutie too (for all of you who watch dramas for the good-looking men or women)! The two main guys in the drama are both pretty good-looking, although I really didn’t like Kim Jeong-Hoon’s acting in this drama. He overexaggerated a lot of things for Yul’s personality and actions. He was too confusing at times and I had to infer a few things about him throughout the drama. Overall, I really liked this drama; maybe a 70% recommendation?

i felt it dragged towards the end, and the ending felt rushed. However, overall it is a good drama to start the addiction => It had a good looking cast, average acting, a unique storyline and beautiful sets. Its 8.5/10 for me!

Ahhhhh, Goong. What can I say about the first K-Drama that got me hooked onto K-Dramas for life?
Besides its excellent production and absolutely gorgeous set design, before the actual actors I adore the path the director takes with the show. When it came to the atmosphere he created amongst the characters and around the Palace, I admired the fact, first and formost, that he didn’t alter the seasons. Yeah, I know its weird to address this, but most dramas try to alter the mood of a drama by changing the seasons. Making it snow in the dead of summer or trying to make it a sunny beach day when its freezing outside. Goong does no such thing. Its takes advantage of the beautiful autumn and winter weather that pervaded it, as well as the beautiful design and costumes of the Palace that gave the screen so much color I could’ve watched it just so I could wish I had the exact same wallpaper that is in the Royal chambers.
But really Goong is a story of a very unconverntional Cinderella, Chae-kyung and how she becomes engaged and falls in love with the cold Prince Shin. At the beginning I’ll be honest, I absolutely loathed Shin. He was being a complete jerk the Chae-kyung, and my mind was screaming ‘Dump him Chae-kyung and go for Prince Yool, dangit! He’s SO. MUCH. BETTER.’
But Palace politics would not allow such a thing, and soon I would not allow such a thing as Shin was proven vulnerable. A stark and vivid contrast is auyomatically made between the newlyweds families. While Chae-kyung’s is out-spoken, full of obvious flaws, but very open and loving with one another despite their quarrels, Shin’s family is reserved, conservative, and will do anything to hide their own flaws. Shin pines for his ex Hyo-Rin, because they are similar. Both broken somewhat in familial ways, and both have dreams of running away. That’s a friend he needs, and Shin concludes he could’ve lived well with Hyo-Rin. Yet as Chae-kyung proves to be so different than him, she also proves to be that sense of unconditional love he wanted so badly from his parents as a child and she proves to be a person he most definitely cannot live without. Contrast ultimately brings them together despite somewhat snnoying scandals going out the wazoo concerning Hyo-Rin and Yool’s scheming mother.
I’ve already over-written this summary, but there is so much to say about this drama that proves that although Shin is outwardly more grown up than Chae-kyung, he holds his teddy bear like a child because in the end, he never got the love and nurturing he needed. Chae-kyung seems outwardly more immature but despite her commoner upbringing she got all she needed, and that was love. Her ability to love and Shin’s inability to express it at first brings them together, and against a gorgeous backdrop of a constitutional monarchy in Korea, heartbreaking and hilarious secondary characters that win your heart almost from the get-go, with wonderful first acting attempts from the two main leads (and splendid performances from the veterans), what else can you ask for from a drama?

What can I say other than this was one of the first korean dramas I watched after watching very sappy dramas such as “Autumn in my Heart” and “Winter Sonata.” It showed a different part of dramas that I had not come accustom to yet (which is of course seen often now… a snooty rich boy getting to know an average determined girl^_^), and although the lead roles drove me crazy at times with the anticipation of “just be together already… show your love, express it… realize it…,” I was drawn in to watch it unfold until the end. Plus, the extra factors that played into making this drama, such as the setting of traditional politics with a royal family in a modern society, made it more intriguing.

I rate this drama a “Seven” based on my WithS2’s rating system^_^:
10- just had some thing unique, not quite seen before in a drama, along with likable about it to give it a 10
9- would watch again and again (consider the fact that a favorite actor or couple may be featured^_^)
8- could watch again if watching it with some one that has not seen it before to watch their reactions
7- memorable and left an impression… too much drama or too long to watch again
6- worth watching once if can’t find some thing to watch
5- watched it and finished it because I started it and got quite far
4 and below- would not watch again or had to stop

Frankly speaking, there were only two reasons I started watching Goong: A) It starred Yoon Eun Hye, with whom I’d fallen in love in Coffee Prince, and B) Because I was a huge fan of the manhwa. Now that it’s been two weeks since I’ve finished it, I’ve discovered two more reasons to recommend it: A) Because Joo Ji Hoon is one of the leads in Antique Bakery, eye-candy movie, and B) Because Goong, also known as Princess Hours, is an amazing drama. If the first reason doesn’t convince you, just go for the last one.
Just as it’s been said before, Goong sports an unbelievable good wardrobe. The costumes are rich in color and perfectly tailored – unlike other historic dramas, it is entirely possible for the audience to believe that Royalty is still living in the Palace and wearing all those traditional dresses. Special nods go to Chae-kyeong’s wardrobe; I bet every actress envied her beautiful dresses. Besides that, the decorations of every room and building was taken cared of with a zealous eye: my most favorite rooms are those inside the Palace where Shin Goon and Chae-kyeong live – the mix of ancient and modern styles was perfectly executed.
Then, there’s the story. Princess Hours succeeds where Goong weakens: it manages to keep the most memorable moments of the manhwa while avoiding some of it’s frustrating melodrama, making it less of a tiring experience. Of course, that also means you get less character-development (Shin Goon is much more less of an asshole), but it’s not so bad to the point where you can’t understand the drama without having read the comic. If there’s one complaint I would make, is that I would’ve liked it more if the drama had focused more of Chae-kyeong’s difficulties in adjusting to the Palace’s rules and less on the love triangle between Shin, her and Yul Goon. Besides that, I personally found the ending to be a bit disappointing, if not weak, but back then almost everyone thought Princess Hours would be getting a Season Two, so it doesn’t really surprise me.
Last but not least, I’d like to make some comments on the acting. The first time I’d seen Yoon Eun Hye was on Coffee Prince, and just like I couldn’t even picture her with long hair during Prince, after a couple of episodes I couldn’t split the actress from her character, Chae-kyeong. A similar thing happened with Joo Ji Hoon; I had seen Antique Bakery quite a long time before this drama, and when I read his name in the credits of the movie I couldn’t believe it! His characters were complete opposites. I can’t say I’m a perfect judge of acting, but I was bought over by his performance. As for Kim Jeong Hoon in the role of Yul Goon… his face made him very lovable, but I wasn’t able to like him. Maybe it was because of his personality in the manhwa, but he didn’t get much sympathy from me. As a side-comment, being that he had to play a character who had lived in Britain during such a long period of time, he should’ve practised his lines in English more. Eugene, the lead actress in Creating Destiny, has proven that not knowing a lot of English doesn’t mean you can’t get the accent right if you practise for a long time. Finally, Song Jy Hyo (Myo-Rin) did a great performance. She had to take on a difficult role, a woman that would be hated by most, and yet she was able to flesh out her character and stop Myo-Rin from simply becoming “That Bitch who wants to steal the Handsome Guy.
In conclusion… go watch Princess Hours. Now.

Goong was the first Korean production that I watched, having only watched Japanese films for years, and it’s really the fault of this show that now all I watch are kdramas. The scenery and clothing in Goong are absolutely amazing, and despite it being along the lines of the typical love story, it’s different and humorous enough to suck you in. The story and actors are charming, and are accompanied by an equally charming soundtrack. If you wish to escape the everyday minutia, I highly urge you to watch this show! The romance genre is generally not my cup of tea, yet I found it most enjoyable.
