@luada, wow girl. I totally agree!! YEH, YSH and the rest of the cast did very well even thou there was a problem in the script. These individuals are called ACTORS. They know how to handle the drama. Unlike YB, it’s not that I don’t like YB, I’m not against them. It’s just that the concept is so common. Every second person in the world knows that concept.

@mmym, this is not a You’re beautiful Review. You’re on the wrong place!

@mmym You’re Beautiful had a mini concert to boot? So what?
Yoon Eun Hye had a mini concert too after My Fair Lady in Japan.
Just because You’re Beautiful had a mini concert afterwards doesn’t mean their acting is much better. Why even compare the 2? They are not even from the same genre. And I’m sorry but I would hardly consider what they did as acting. It was just a bunch of goodlooking guys trying to act and fangirls were raving because of their looks not because they have acting talent.

Now back to My Fair Lady, it had the potential to be a really good drama, but it just all fell apart because the scriptwriters couldn’t handle the pressure anymore. My Fair Lady was not supposed to be shown yet at that time, but they were a filler drama for that timeslot. The scriptwriters weren’t even close to being done with the script when it was aired. During the My Fair Lady farewell party, the scriptwriters werer even seen apologizing to Yoon Eun Hye for what they put her through.

As for Yoon Eun Hye, no one can deny the fact that she is a ratings magnet, cause even with a lousy script, My Fair Lady’s ratings still beat out other dramas.

This series was almost on par with “My Girl.” But lost it the last two discs. Whoever wrote the script must have told his student assistant to finish it off.

Best of these types of Korean dramas I’ve seen so far was “Full House.”

Here’s the thing, “My Fair Lady 아가씨를 부탁해” actually fared better ratings-wise than “You’re Beautiful” but its lead stars Yoon Eun Hye and Jung Il Woo received a lot of criticism from Korean fans on their alleged unsatisfactory acting while YB got fan rave reviews with a real post-drama mini-concert to boot. I was about to conclude that understanding SK ratings is synonymous to taking on rocket science but I guess, it can’t be helped if you’re pitted against better performing series such as IRIS.

On the bright side, I immediately had a soft spot for Yoon Sang Hyun who plays debt-stricken Seo Dong Chan simply because he is the spitting image of my favorite Japanese actor, Kimura Takuya. Seriously, KimuTaku would’ve been confused himself. Beyond his looks, Sang Hyun can act. Oh and apparently, he can sing too. See his rendition of Lionel Richie’s “Hello” in episode 3 and track 2 of this series’ official soundtrack. There’s probably a hint of unashamed bias when I say that he was responsible for keeping me glued to this series even when the glaringly unpleasant factors were telling me to do otherwise.

Yoon Eun Hye is dressed for success as the badass heiress, Kang Hye Na. She played a princess in “Princess Hours” but now she’s expected to give royalty a whole new MEAN-ing here in MFL. She relives her Baby V.O.X. days by singing track 3 of the OST, “Dash Girl”, which was quite fitting in most of the comical scenes. In episode 9, Hye Na wears the exact purple outfit as Mi Nyu in YB. MFL had the advantage though since, it aired much earlier and honestly, the dress looked better on Eun Hye. But I guess, her luck ended there. When you’re coming from a string of successful dramas, expectations are expected to be at an all time high. So, it’s upsetting that she has chosen to work on a role that she was probably ill-suited or not ready for. I would like to think that she hasn’t completely lost her touch so, I’m still keeping my fingers crossed that her next one goes a little bit farther than just fair.

I’m beginning to like Moon Chae Won. She played second lead to Han Hyo Joo in “Shining Inheritance” and although, she’s doing the same here for Yoon Eun Hye she is definitely no wallflower. In SI, she portrayed the guilt-stricken-turned-scheming stepsister in demure fashion while as Eui Joo in MFL she’s the feisty “younger sister” to Dong Chan whom she is secretly in love with. Her effective way of contrasting her refined character in SI to Eui Joo who’s a little rough around the edges just proves that this girl’s got talent. She might even be more versatile than most lead stars such as Yoon Eun Hye who appear to have some difficulty convincing the audience including herself that she is a royal pain in the ass as her character entails, a 360 degree turn from the affectionate roles she has previously been in. Though Eui Joo is totally smitten by Dong Chan, I enjoyed her interactions with Tae Yoon more because of the funny lines and incidents they shared that had an organic feel to it. Their personalities, though unlike, gives off a natural chemistry between them. It’s a welcome breather for every time that Eun Hye tends to overplay her rough behaviour to butler Seo. On the flip side, I wished Eui Joo kept her tears spilling tendencies to a minimum and should’ve done away with the unnecessary display of sobs for every little matter concerning Dong Chan.

Jung Il Woo plays Tae Yoon who would’ve been a good contender for Hye Na’s heart if he wasn’t so busy getting all worked up over his suspicions on Dong Chan from day one. Well, they did turn out to be true but by then he didn’t have much good memories shared with Hye Na to give him some edge over her butler. For a chaebol rebel, he is too indecisive and fickle. In front of Eui Joo, he was firm about giving up on Hye Na but in the next scene he vehemently insists on holding on to her with absolute but baseless certainty that she will eventually return to him. While the drama was airing, Il Woo admits to his frustration of not being able to understand his character which, according to him, is the cause of his inferior performance. If he was confused, so was I.

Small but incredible Wang Suk Hyun is just downright adorable. This 6 year old star was an instant hit in his first film, “Speed Scandal” so, it was very disappointing to have his talent wasted on his very first tv series. His scenes with butler Seo were enjoyable but brief. The director should’ve capitalized on Suk Hyun’s charisma instead of limiting his exposure to mostly insignificant dialogues with his family.

There were two visually appealing scenes that are worth mentioning: the sunset walk of Hye Na and Dong Chan down a winding road in episode 2 and Tae Yoon’s parked car between a seemingly limitless stretch of trees in episode 7.

It would’ve been convenient to put all the blame for this drama’s misfortune to Eun Hye and Il Woo but the fact is that they were also victims of this drama’s nauseously written story. It’s like being on a slow moving carousel the entire time. The experience is new and great at first but when you’ve been on it for 16 hours seeing and feeling the exact same thing, you know that it’s going nowhere and you realize you’ve just been taken in for a ride.

I loved Yoon Eun Hye in Princess Hours, and the plot seemed very nice so I gave it a try. This drama actually started good. The drama got kinda boring towards the end and there wasn’t anything significant going on. I didn’t like YEH’s character because she was not someone I’d relate to in any way. I found her annoying, actually. It could have been YEH’s acting, but that I’m not sure of. Overall it was a mediocre drama, nothing special in my opinion.

    6/10 stars

What I can say about My Fair Lady?

    I will start with a good thing…
The chemistry is overflowing… Yoon Eun Hye and Yoon Sang Hyun Yoon Eh YEH and YDH really got their charm together. You can’t get tired watch their scene together even they got a big age gap. It funny to watch and make you hook-up… Many cute scene for the main or second lead.

    Now the bad thing…
The story is a mess. Many scene just copy from another drama and look like they lose idea to come with something new. Script also not so good, not so touching, just average… Not something that can melt your heart. The character also a mess, the second lead even got confused with his character… I think this drama really depend on chemistry of two main lead.

This drama is lucky for rating because not against any good drama. I’m sure if other station play IRIS or You’re beautiful… it will completely go down like Heading to the ground.

And for rating I will go for 6…
It not drama that you will watching over and over… It just enough to watch once… And if you tired of other drama, it still ok to watch it again…

Couldn’t make myself to finish this drama. I felt that Yoon Eun Hye’s acting was forced (it’s sad because I have been looking forward to this after watching Coffee Prince). The writing was also bad (I couldn’t understand where the story is going, and I just did not have a connection, an empathetic feeling, towards the characters in this series.). With hesitation,I’ll give it a 6/10!

This one was just one I needed… I was in the middle of finding a drama to watch while waiting for subs I believe for another drama. I enjoyed watching Yoon Sang Hyun and could have watched him again in a romantic comedy with more emphasis on his “carefree flirty serious comical sincere” romantic side. I had not seen Yoon Eun Hye since Goong, and although her character at first wanted to make you believe it didn’t seem quite fit… she developed into a character that was believable.
Okay, and I have to say (without giving too much away), I really like how Jung II Woo’s character handled his love interest… he seemed to have his head on his shoulders for the most part (not throwing himself at the whim of emotional wants^_^).
I don’t know if I would necessarily watch this drama time and time again, but I did enjoy it.

I rate this drama as a “Seven coming close to an Eight” or vise versa^_^ based on my WithS2 rating system^_^:
10- just had some thing unique, not quite seen before in a drama, along with likable about it to give it a 10
9- would watch again and again (consider the fact that a favorite actor or couple may be featured^_^)
8- could watch again if watching it with some one that has not seen it before to watch their reactions
7- memorable and left an impression… too much drama or too long to watch again
6- worth watching once if can’t find some thing to watch
5- watched it and finished it because I started it and got quite far
4 and below- would not watch again or had to stop watching!

I really like Yoon Eun-Hye as an actress, but im quite disappointed in this drama.
Its not because of the actors or the acting. I did not feel and see the chemistry between the lead actors. I did not feel the romance between Yoon Sang-hyeon and YEH.
I think that YEH and Jeong Il-woo will have a better chemistry.
