i like this drama so much. It’s the first drama I watched this year. I took a break since last Christmas from watching K-Drama so that I could focus on my senior high….but I’m coming back because of this drama….I hope i can finish it during Christmas and New Year break.

That’s a lot of capslocks there. ^^’ Yes, LiB finished airing a few weeks ago. http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Life_is_Beautiful_%28SBS%29

That’s very rare. Like, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a second season? Except maybe High kick through the roof? There have been rumors that a few dramas would get a second season (Coffee Prince comes to mind) but most of the times they all fall through. There have been spinoffs, like Goong S which followed Goong (FYI, Goong S didn’t do so well) and these days Queen of Reversals is airing and it’s, um, not exactly a spinoff? I don’t even know what it is, to tell you the truth. Next week Athena starts and it’s a spinoff of Iris. Iris is also getting a sequel, a honest-to-god season 2 (IRIS 2) which is supposed to air sometime in October/November 2011. But these are just exceptions. I don’t think LiB will get a s2, not after it getting an extension, but hey, you never know.

THIS IS A WONDERFUL SERIES WITH GREAT SCRIPS AND ACTING. EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS DRAMA IS VERY BEAUTIFUL LIKE ITS TITLE. OF COURSE, THERE ARE ALWAYS OBSTACLES AND PROBLEMS IN LIVES, BUT THAT DOESN’T MEAN LIFE IS NOT BEAUTIFUL. WE HAVE TO ENDURE IT TOGETHER AS A FAMILY AND MAKE IT BEAUTIFUL. WE CAN NOT SOLVE IT ALL BY ONE PERSON, BUT A FAMILY. IT’S A GREAT LESSON TO LEARN FROM.

BESIDES, THE GAY LOVERS, “TAE-SUB AND KYUNG SO” ARE VERY SWEET. THEY REALLY KNOW HOW TO ACT. THEIR CHEMISTRY IS AMAZING. I WILL BE WAITING FOR MORE. CAN’T WAIT TO SEE THE ENDING.

I would like to show my gratitude and love for your hardwork. My friends recommended me a few weeks ago and now I’m hooked. I couldn’t bring myself to do anything besides sitting in front of my computer all day to watch this drama. I really like the gay couple in here coz they’re so cute together. Other couple like the grandparents are also cute and funny. Overall, this is a great drama full of beautiful moments. Love it…hug…

    More please, I’m on episode 55 already….

I think SeMe’s comments are right on target. I’ve now completed episode 44 and I can honestly say that this is a beautifully written, beautifully acted drama. It just gets better and better. The writing for and acting by the gay couple deserves special mention as both are truly outstanding. Next in line for special mention are grandpa, slowly overtaken by mental and physical frailties and youngest uncle with a bad case of arrested development. BTW, if you happen to be homophobic, it’s your loss. You will not enjoy this drama.

There was an interview of the actress who plays the matriarch grandmother on a morning program with behind the scenes footage. She mentioned how it’s been a long time since there’s been a drama with a large family living under the same roof (well, three roofs, one property in this case). While the idea of a family living together seems outdated – especially for someone like me who grew up in the U.S. – the family is a very modern family.

There are divorced parents, step and half brothers and sisters, refined and not so refined family members, wives who dominate their husbands, husband who abuses his wife, ambitious brother and the slacker brother, young love and old(er) love, a gay couple in love.

This drama receives a lot of attention because of the gay couple in love but it is so well written (and as Touchydpad mentions) without any religious implications and so well acted, you cannot help but to sit and listen. There is acceptance, but not without deep pain and conflict. There is resistance because a mother cannot “give up” on her son. But forget the adjective “gay”, there are couples in general that make us uncomfortable. My 15 year-old niece screams and runs out of the room when the “older” couple are making out. Because as part of the drama title suggests, it’s LIFE!

As everything in life, it hits a nerve. There’s that uncle who just makes you cringe but realize how quiet the room is when he’s not there. The nagging wife who you wish would shut up but realize how nothing gets accomplished when she doesn’t nag. The mother who throws insults to your face and says she considers you dead, but in the end you yearn for her understanding and love.

This is written very well and a stellar cast of veteran actors and newcomers. Some of the newcomers were stiff in the beginning of the drama, but you can see the influence the veteran have on them as they improve. A lot of detail is put into camera angles (sometimes too much). It becomes dramatic by becoming more quiet and a lot of the dramatic scenes are portrayed with the facial expression and body language than words.

The backdrop of Jeju Island is gorgeous. It takes advantage of the beautiful landscape showing the old and new. It doesn’t shy away from saying “Come to Jeju Island, the best vacation spot all year round. We have everything!”

This drama was originally slated for 50 episodes, but it has been extended. But unlike other dramas, the extension doesn’t get me nervous about how it may drag the storyline because it doesn’t have one, dramatic climax that has been escalating since the beginning of the episode. There’s no revenge that’s been brewing since episode 4 or a couple forced apart that should have gotten together since episode 2. It’s life. There are episodes where I wish I was part of that family, then it changes to, I’m so glad that’s not my family. It shows different sides and whether you decide to accept that lifestyle or not is up to you, but like life, it goes on whether you like it or not. It teaches me that what is acceptable is to treat each and every human being as an individual and to respect his/her decisions. Thanks Life is Beautiful, now I know the meaning of life.

I”m sorry but you are coming around as disrespectful and most certainly ill informed. First of all my applause to you if you have children that are able to read at such a level to watch subtitled asian dramas. That being said, you assume that this show’s inclusion of a gay storyline purports itself as being just “gay friendly” for the sake of appealing “those people”

The inclusion of the eldest son as a burgeoning closeted gay male illustrated the struggles and pratfalls that homosexual men have to face in a deeply conservative asian (non-christian) society. I personally think its facinating to see the stark differences in the Korean cultures and society compared to American society. Especially since these values aren’t deeply rooted in Christianity. In the relationship of the two men we see the differences in the reactions their families have to the discovery of the relationship.

On the one hand you have Tae Sub, a very quiet, reserved but caring young man. His own desire to keep the shame of being discovered as gay actually pushes himself to be even more reserved especially with his stepmother. It is actually not until he come out to his stepmother, and realizes her acceptance that he now is able to accept her as his mother.

On the other hand, you have Kyung Soo, Tae Sub’s boyfriend who has been completely exiled from his family. He married a woman and even fathered a daughter. However they separated as he was discovered for having relations with a man. You see the immense disapproval from his mother who even call her own son a monster. She pleads for him to accept his duty as a son an live a normal life and blames him for all the misfortunes that happen with his siblings (sister’s fiance left her, brother has mental problems).

So yes. I truly am sorry you feel you need to protect and re-educate your “kids” from watching all these “gay friendly” dramas that only appeal to “these people.”

Looks like we all have to watch gay friendly dramas these days to appeal to these people. I am not trying to be disrespectful although I know I will come across as. Its great having to re-educate my kids after the TV comes along and educates my kids what is acceptable and not. So in future I will be watching these dramas first.
