This drama started out promising. Had an interesting storyline and the characters were interesting… but around episode 6 it started getting really mundane to watch. I gave it a chance though… watching up to episode 8, but to be honest the acting started getting REALLY over the top. It was to the point where I found it more funny than dramatic. For instance when her kid gets kidnapped, instead of rushing to go find him shes like screaming “MIN-JO!!!!!!?!?!?!?!” into the phone for like 10 minutes and looking like a crazy lady. Tone it down a couple notches…

What do you get when you mix the 80’s drama Dynasty + the game Clue + girl power and make it Korean style? You get “My Happy Home”.

For the young kids who don’t remember the 80’s TV program, Dynasty, it was a drama with over-the-top characters, lots of animosity because of old love(r)s, cat and mouse game of he said, she said. There are a lot of tangled characters in and out of each others’ lives creating a lot of tangled messes. This drama has all that and more.

Then there’s a murder mystery. You know who is dead, but you try to figure out who killed him (or moved the body) and why. The dash of girl power because the women just run the show and the men…step aside or you may die…literally in one case. The women in this drama are portrayed as powerful women – using all different various means to wield that power.

I am up to episode 6 and I have to take this drama in small doses because of so much animosity and back stabbing going on. All the games the characters play to gain an advantage get me riled up but it does keep me coming back because it adds more mystery to the murder. The characters are interesting and very multi-dimensional with lots of layers. However, the characters are so exaggerated I can’t seem to root for a particular character.
I’ll have to see if I end up on Team Krystal or Team Alexis (Dynasty reference for the young ‘uns out there).
