One of the best historical dramas I've ever watched! I was really moved by it like no other drama. And, though it had a few times it seemed a little slow, all the other exciting parts made up for it. Two thumbs up and five stars for Queen Seon Deok!

This is the longest drama I have ever watched and one of the best. I have tried to write a decent review for it two times prior and I've felt that my reviews never did the drama any justice. Third times a charm right?

::Plot::
This historical drama has a lot of twists and turns because it essentially is a battle of wits. Deokman and Milshil are constantly trying to outdo each other. The meaning of "plan" is constantly thrown out the window.

The plot started out slow a bit boring because they wanted to give you the development of how Deokman became the Queen. The real excitement begins when Deokman finds out she's the princess and tries remove Milshil's power from the Court. The reverse psychology, the manipulation the passive aggressiveness of the characters.

The latter 1/3 of the drama was dragged out and I did not really understand it besides the fact Bidam was pulling strings because of jealousy.

Think of it as a live action version of a chess game. Also, something about this drama reminds me of Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" and Niccolo Machiavelli "The Prince".

::Characters/Acting::
Whilst all the actors did a fantastic job a special mention to Ko Hun Jung (Milshil) who did the best acting for one the best actors I've ever seen. She will be the one to draw you in and keep you there. Whilst I was watching Milshil I felt a sense of respect, and not many villains can draw that out of me.

::Aesthetics::
Vivid colours, fantastic clothes (even though they were the same clothes a lot, it was like they never changed or something). The music was a little bit annoying at times but that might be because they kept using the same music for similar scenes.

This drama might not be everyone's cup of tea but you must at least try it. If not the the plot then for Ko Hun Jung's fabulous acting.

I love Korean historical dramas. I've watched Jumong and Dae Jang Geum and I loved both very much. But, QSD really affected me a lot!!! I mean, I was crying after watching the last episode. I know it's just drama, but my heart ached terribly. I never cried this much before and I'm wondering if I'll ever stop!

Though in my perspective, jumong is still the best historical drama I've watched 'till now, nonetheless Queen Seon Deok leaves me a deep impression even after so many days watching it. The costumes, locations and fighting scenes are all very well presented. There are a lot of sensible dialogues on philosophy and ideology of war. The human frailty, greed and sacrifice. This is a very entertaining drama indeed, keeps you brimming with excitement while waiting for the next thing to happen. However, this has also swept me with grief. I cried rivers of tears seeing the last episode. I don’t know what keeps my heart ache so hard I almost find it hard to breath. I thought about it for a while, is it because of Bidam who tries to run away from himself not knowing what he really want, looking for salvation by loving someone to a fault, or the way he died trying to catch a glimpse of the queen he so ardently love but failed to trust in her or is it because Deokman leave such a lonely life that almost all the people beside him perish before her. In the end, it keeps me thinking and spend my days with this heavy heart.
     They may have drag the story for too long because after Mishil's death, none of their idealism and struggle are worth a watch, if not for Bidam who actually does his role beautifully in spite of his character which is hard to fathom and can't understand his sole purpose. He will still grow on you and you can't help but to love him and felt pity for him.
      All in all, I still recommend you watch this drama. This is still one of the best so far.

1 of the best kdrama i ever watch. The plot,script were fantastic and the interesting character like Mishil,Bidam and Prince Chun Chu really made this drama awesome.This drama make u feel envious to main antagonist character(Mishil) rather than Queen Seon Duk itself. Ko Hun Jung is one of the great actress i ever seen in my life and very well deserved Daesang Award at MBC Drama Award...

overall i gave 9/10

Queen Seon Duk. Or some prefer to call it Queen 'Snore' Duk but I don't totally agree. Yes there are some boring moments and too much of endless talking during the later half of the series but it was an enjoyable experience more or less lol.
This sageuk started out strong and every week I would wait for new episodes to come out but the last third of the series was weak.
The characters and story development got slow paced and there was endless talking. It might have been due to the extension from 50 to 62 episodes.

I have to say this is one of the first time I did not hate the villain. Mishil is THE villain in this story and I have to say that I love her! Her presence onscreen just makes your eyes glue to the screen and do nothing else. The way she makes one of her eyebrows go up, & how she's such a brilliant strategist make you love and hate her at the same time. Just her alone will make you want to watch this series. Her acting was superb. Period.

The music was pleasing to the ears, I didn't have a problem with it at all. The directing... I didn't have a problem with it until toward the end when I started noticing how they kept focusing each person face after something someone said. Like there would be a report and everyone is shocked, they HAVE to show everyone who's in the scene their "shocked" face... it was quite annoying.

Unless you have time on your hand, watching this drama would be quite the challenge. Not the best sageuk out there but it was a fun run. You fall in love with all the characters be it evil or not because in the end, everyone had some sort of justification to why they did what they did. & you can't help but agree with them for a tiny second.

My verdict? It started out strong, but ended rather on a disappointing note.
