Ah You’re Beautiful…. Everyone’s seen it, everyone’s liked it…and … damn, I loved it too. At first I thought “hey what if I said it’s bad, just for fun,”…but Hong Ki looked at me with puppy eyes and I couldn’t. So here’s yet another review to say that “You’re Beautiful is so awesome that if you don’t watch it, it means you’re brain is even worse than mine”. Oh and one small thing before we being: You’re Beautiful has been compared to Hana Kimi a lot because of the wall “girl pretending to be a boy” thing but actually if I had to compare You’re Beautiful to a famous Japanese dorama it would be Hana Yori Dango. Anyway, we’ll talk about that later, let’s go!

However… do you know what the difference between my reviews and all the other reviews you’ll find on the net is? Well the review is kinda the same but it took me five days to start writing, then two days to actually write and then two days to rewrite everything. I don’t really know why but I just had a very hard time writing this review, it took me a long long time. And actually I still don’t like my review very much but if I keep rewriting it, it’ll take me a month! And also each time I rewrite it I end up adding another page so by the time I’m satisfied it’ll probably be twenty pages long which isn’t good for my fingers nor your eyes. Anyway this review is useless since you already know you have to watch it;..cause you’re clever people. But you know, … I really enjoy useless suff so , really this time: let’s go!

And for once let’s start with the characters and first: Go Mi Nam. Well technically Go Mi Nam is her brother’s name but Arbi says “Go Mi Nam” so Go Mi Nam it is! (Arbi = Jang Geun Seuk…I have a very good explanation for that). Plus, each time Arbi says that name, I just want to go “kyaaah” so hard…I don’t know, he just has a special way to say it that I really really love. Anyway Mi Nam wanted to become a nun and instead she’s lost in a world she doesn’t understand and a world she wants to get out of as soon as possible. Somehow I liked her. I didn’t think I would but I actually did. I never thought she was annoying, not even when she as going all naïve and cute which usually gets on my nevers. Nope, it was okay. Still I wonder how they all thought she was a boy…. This is actually a bit Hana Kimi-sh here (the Japanese HoriMaki version I mean…Cause in the Taiwanese version I was actually wondering how Ella Chen could pass as a girl… and also Go Mi Nam really wasn’t as annoying as HoriMaki in my opinion). Really didn’t get how they couldn’t just see it. But oh well I still liked the character, starting from ep1. I never wanted to slap her which is quite rare… In dorama there’s usually always a moment when I want to slap a character, especially a female one. Still I wish we’d seen more of her twin brother. I know it’s not really the point of the dorama but still…I wish the actress’d had a real twin brother. But that’s being difficult… Mi Nam was cute, interesting and nice, I won’t ask of her to also have a brother who’s a sex-symbol and whose passion in life is to get undressed in front of the camera.

So let’s discuss what’s even more interesting than Go Mi Nam, that is to say A.N.J.ELS, the boys-band…The bishiiiieeeeessss! Shin Woo, Jeremy and Tae Kyung. And I’ll discuss them in this order cause Tae Kyung is the one I liked the best. Though I loved Jeremy too. Anyway.

Good looking guy number one: Shin Woo playing Hanazawa Rui…okay, maybe not… but he has the same coat!

That said he also has a sweater that reminded me of Akanishi Jin’s in the Keep the faith PV. Akanishi Jin + Oguri Shun = how do you feel about being raped against this very convenient wall?

Anyway he kinda reminded me Rui …physically and also because he was being the « nice and brain dead » guy . Okay his brain isn’t really dead but he isn’t exactly active either. He is the character I felt bad for approximately all the time cause he’s the guy who’s gonna keep trying and will get rejected ten times a day. And sometimes the girl doesn’t even realize she is rejecting him which makes him even more pitiful…poor guy. And when I say “pitiful” I mean “… poor guy, I will give you comfort sex anytime T.T”. Okay what I mean is that he’s not just a pathetic mess. He earned my respect (and that made him really happy I’m sure) cause he was always nice but never pathetic. He did his best, he tried but wasn’t clingy…perfect balance. He also managed to be as active as a snail without being boring and I never wanted to slap him to wake him up (contrary to Hanaza Rui…I always wanted to slap Ri…Shun is sexy and attractive but wow he’s good at playing dead). I really felt bad for him, his poor heart got broken quite a few times. He’s the one I liked less but not because I didn’t like him, I just loved the others even more.

And here comes: Jeremy, played by Lee Hong Ki ….. When I saw him, I loved him. He appeared for like two seconds and I thought “I’m gonna love you so much”. And I did. I also thought “hey, G-Dragon!” (note that at that time I had only seen two pictures of G-dragon though). I quickly understood he wasn’t GD though…but still, the more I saw him, the more I loved him and so I got interested in GD too and this is the story of how I discovered that I like GD and Big Bang.

Anyway, back to Hong Ki….And since the Hana Kimi comparison is quite popular, let’s make one. He has a Nakatsu-side which is quite nice. He’s this guy who’s kinda out of it, weird, and ends up doubting his sexual orientation…and also, my god he’s soooo lively. He just never stopped, being all cute all the time, really I just loved him. But the problem is that, because of this, when he lost his smile, I was crying so so much. The bus scene (won’t explain but when you watch the dorama you’ll know what I’m talking about) was the most heartbreaking scene of the dorama. It was coming kinda out of the blue but Hong Ki’s acting was so solid and I loved Jeremy so much that my heart broke in a thousand pieces. Okay but don’t think this dorama is sad!!! It’s a fun dorama and Jeremy is a fun character too.

If I had to chose, I’d take Jeremy as my boyfriend, Shin Woo as my big brother …and Tae Kyung? Well my friends Tae Kyung is just Tae Kyung…. Which is … you know…Tae Kyung *O*

To be honest, when I saw him for the first time, the first thing I thought Was « damn, he’s the reason why I wanted to watch this and he’s the less attractive of the three »…because of the hair and the thin body. But that guy has so much charisma …I fell for him, fell hard. I had seen him in Hong Gil Dong before and knew I was gonna love him but I didn’t know I was gonna love him that much. You have to know that in Hong Gil Dong he’s good-looking and acts well but he’s the most depressed guy ever. In You’re Beautiful I discovered he could be hilarious too! He really made me laugh. Not smile: laugh. Three times by episodes, sometimes with just a facial expression. I must admit that because of the dorama’s genre I wasn”t expecting very good actors, I just wanted a nice plot and pretty guys…But they were all great! And he was too.

Arbi really did lose some weight and lots of people complained about it but I kinda liked it actually. I don’t know who came up with the wonderful idea of putting eyeliner on him but I’m loving that guy. It underlines his look, it’s perfect, really. And his character…I just loved him (you know I’ve seen that dorama’s three times already but the more I write about it, the more I wanna see it again >.< Basically.

As for other characters now…I kinda liked the rival somehow. I know most people wanted to kill her but in her first scenes she made me laugh and so I liked her after that…and I didn’t think she was such a b*tch compared to other rivals in other Kdoramas! So I didn’t hate her and she made me laugh. Obviously, sometimes, I wanted to slap her too but you know she’s a Kdorama rival, she can”t be likeable all the time! But still she didn’t annoy me too much and she was never really a threat to the main character anyway cause Tae Kyung doesn’t even consider her for even a second. Actually I was almost sad for her. As for her “ending”…I liked it , it made me laugh and it was even cute.

I liked the band’s stylist (she’s waaaaaay nicer than the one who choses Johnny’s costumes) and I really loved their manager. He was sooo nice! He’s not good-looking but I love his face (sorry by the way…no pictures of them but as you can see, I only took screencaps of Arbi, Jerry and a bit of Shin Woo) and he made me laugh so much with all his parodies (yay for the Super Junior’s one). Tae Kyung’s mother was really hateful, I loved the company president…and other than that…well there aren’t many characters. Except: the fans.

The dorama is about a boys-bands so of course fans are important! The fans’ “leader” was supra cute by the way! It’s not essential but it doesn’t hurt either. I found it fun to see the fans’ reactions. They get angry or sad for details. I really laughed when the rival declares war on Tae Kyung by using fans…but it’s also a bit frightening cause it reflects reality in a sense and it’s scary how idols have so much influence on people.

As for the music, since we’re in a Kdrama, of course, songs are being used a lot which can be tiring sometimes but I liked the soundtrack anyway. It’s not the most beautiful soundtrack I’ve ever heard but ti’s very nice and the boys’s voices are very nice. By the way, Jung Yong Hwa is the lead singer of Kpop band C.N. Blue and Lee Hong-Ki is F.T. Island’s lead singer. Both bands are worth listening to, give it a try! I tend to like C.N.Blue’s music better but Lee Hong-Ki’s voice is nicer I think. Anyway, nice music and pretty boys = all I ask for.

Okay so basically I loved that dorama. The idea wasn’t that original, it’s a dream we all had, but it’s well done, actors are great, it’s fun…among Korean fun doramas this one is one of the bests and there’s emotion too of course! I liked the characters and cried with them but basically I just had a very good time…and of course it doesn’t hurt to have so many good-looking, cute, adorable actors. So …just watch it will you?
